Meet Rob
Rob sustained burns to approximately 85-95% of his body as a 4 year old child. 26 years later Rob still receives medical treatment to dress wounds on a weekly basis. Rob was referred to OTSG to see if he could obtain his driver's licence, and our OT Chris worked closely with Rob over a number of months to remediate his driving (with a modified steering technique) and eventually support Rob to pass his Practical Driving Assessment at the Department of Transport. Meet Bessie
Bessie was referred to OTSG to complete an Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment and due to deteriorating vision. Chris met with Bessie in Geraldton one Friday afternoon and to complete the assessment regionally. Meet Stephen
Stephen was a truck driver before sustaining a serious stroke and which left him with a significant hemiplegia & difficulty talking (dysphasia). One of our Driver Trained Occupational Therapists, Chris, assessed Stephen and recommended that he return to driving with the use of vehicle modifications – namely a left hand spinner knob (with remote indication) & a left foot accelerator pedal. Meet Terry
Terry lives alone in the southern suburbs of Perth and was referred as she had become unable to access her local community. Terry’s community mobility had been severely impacted through years of living with osteoarthritis and a chronic heart condition. Terry has also been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, and was at risk of becoming socially isolated as a result of her inability to access her local community. Meet Kayla
Kayla is one of our youngest drivers and was referred to commence a driver rehabilitation program to learn to drive a modified vehicle. Kayla was born with cerebral palsy which has impacted her mobility and the functioning of her lower limbs, making it difficult for Kayla to accurately control and coordinate the use of standard brake and accelerator pedals. With the help of OTSG, Kayla has been able to learn to drive with the use of a ‘joystick style’ spinner knob attached to the steering wheel  and a hand control lever to operate the accelerator and brake. Meet Levi
Levi was referred to OTSG as a novice driver and as he experiences a left sided weakness as a result of a traumatic brain injury. Gill supported Levi by completing an initial Occupational Therapy Driving Assessment and identifying the need for vehicle modifications. Gill then worked with Levi on-road by providing skill building intervention & to teach Levi to drive with the modified driving controls and prepare for the Department of Transport Practical Driving Assessment. Meet Lynette
Lynette was referred to OTSG in 2019 as a participant of the NDIS. Lynette lives with a condition called Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) with is a rare and complex neurological condition characterised by progressive and fluctuating weakness and sensory loss in the arms and legs. Meet Ahmed

Ash was living the dream in the South West region until he was involved in a horrific car accident in 2019. The accident left Ash with severe burns to 50% of his total body surface & bilateral lower limb amputations. Meet Audrey
Originally referred to Occupational Therapy Services Group in 2014. Audrey is now 94 years of age and lives at home alone being one of our Department of Veteran Affairs ‘gold card’ war widows. One of our occupational therapists, Rianne, has been visiting Audrey at home for the last 5 years. Rianne completes regular home reviews to assess what modifications, strategies, and assistive equipment are needed to ensure Audrey’s safety and to facilitate her continued independence.
