Lois has worked and volunteered in the disability sector since she was 16 years old and which gave her the initial interest to explore opportunities in health and social care, and in particular Occupational Therapy. Lois studied Occupational Therapy in Edinburgh at Queen Margaret University, graduating in 2011. She then moved to Australia in 2012, and managed to complete her practice audit with Occupational Therapy Services Group and which has allowed Lois to work as an Occupational Therapist in Australia. Lois originally joined us in 2014, and the time has flown past ever since! Lois now predominately works with participants under the NDIS and which although it has it’s challenges, Lois enjoys the variety of different individuals and circumstances she meets, and travelling to rural locations which lets her see a bit more of Australia!
Lois has a passion for disability, assistive technology, & minor and major structural modification, & is also trained in the Perceive, Plan, Recall Perform (PRPP) system of task analysis and which she feels allows her to achieve optimal rehabilitative outcomes. Lois is our Occupational Therapy Manager and enjoys supporting and mentoring the rest of our team as we negotiate the complexities that come with working in such a diverse role. Lois is also our social coordinator and is always planning the next social outing!
Outside of work, Lois enjoys spending time with friends, visiting local restaurants and bars, the local farmer’s markets, and is part of a monthly book club (which has apparently become more of a wine club!). Lois is always doing something social and active, whether it be walking or hiking with her dog (Dougal), cooking or baking, or working on some kind of sewing project! Lois loves food! And on the weekend loves a nice brunch/breakfast date at a local cafe. While Lois' family are all back home in Scotland, (per-COVID) Lois tries to head home every year to spend time with her family.
