Supported Independent Living (SIL) - Housing Assessment

An SIL assessment involves one of our OT's providing a comprehensive assessment of the participants functional status and the support levels they require to live as independently and safely within their home with their everyday care needs being met.

Our Occupational Therapists are experienced in using a wide rage of assessments to ensure NDIS receive very clear and comprehensive information available to them when making SIL and SDA decisions based on the reasonable and necessary criteria. Our report layout enables the reader to make clear connections between the participants level of ability, requirement for support and/or specialist housing and the NDIS requirements.

Participants eligible for SIL funding in their NDIS plan can include participants:
  • Living with their parents
  • Residing alone
  • Living in a shared residence with other NDIS participants
  • Wanting to move from your current accommodation to a more independent and age appropriate accommodation

SIL funding can be provided both in non-SDA residences or SDA residences.

Supported Independent Living (SIL): the supports a person requires to live independently within the community.

Specialist Disability Accomodation (SDA) - Housing Assessment

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a type of housing or accommodation for participants who require specialist housing solutions (for example specific modifications or assistive technology) and to cater for their complex functional impairment or high support needs. SDA assessment involves an extensive evaluation of your current and future needs, and provides a recommendation to NDIS regarding your eligibility for specialist disability accommodation and the specific environmental features required for optimal independence and safety. This can include specific recommendations around wheelchair accessible homes, installation of ceiling hoists, use of home automation technology or robust features to aid safety.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA): the environmental accommodation requirements a person requires to live independently within the community.
